On Sunday November 27th, Iona Primary’s FIRST LEGO League (FLL) robotics teams competed in their WA Regional Tournament, held at Curtin University.
After eight intense weeks of preparation, the Robotic Rebels (Year 5), and The Motherboards (Year 6), competed alongside 23 teams, involving students from Years 3-10. They presented an innovative solution to a real world problem, competed in the robot games, and completed a range of robot design and teamwork judging activities.
Last Monday, we celebrated the conclusion of the 2016 Maker Monday after-school program. We were delighted to have many parents join us, taking the opportunity to see their children’s projects, and to view some of the exciting changes we have made to the library space with the help of the Iona P&F.

What a fantastic day we have had, immersed in maths activities.
On Thursday, September 15, we hosted our third and final ‘Makerspace in Schools’ workshop in partnership with Curtin University. Working with Curtin professors, pre-service teachers, and student engineers, the Year 5 girls built and tested elastic band powered propeller cars. The workshops were run as part of an ongoing academic research project exploring the role of makerspaces and hands on maker projects to inspire girls’ learning in science and engineering.
Congratulations to our instrumental students who performed last night in Treacey Hall. Your performances were outstanding and reflected great musicianship. May music bring you joy each day. Thank you also to our dedicated and passionate instrumental tutors who prepared the students for the concert.
